長ったらしくていつまでも終わらないレム『SFと未来学』にちょっと疲れてきて、お手軽なものを。

2026年1月6日に全訳あがりました。お年玉がわりに。既訳と比べてどのくらい改善されているかは、また注を見ればわかるはず。

これは翻訳権がちゃんと切れているのでご安心を。これについては、訳者解説 (だいたいできてる) で説明しておいたので、興味ある向きはご参照を。なお、最初に書いたときはアメリカの著作権更新の仕組みと本書の献辞についての理解が不足していて、まちがった記述をしてしまったので2026年になってから更新した分では修正してある。

なお多くの変換ミスを指摘してもらい、1/24時点でバージョン1.06にあがっています。ついでにGrokにダサい表紙を作らせました。(が、意外といいできだなあ)

付記：英米版比較　(2026.05.10)

その後、細かい改善を経て現在バージョン1.12にあがった。最新バージョンでは、英米版の比較も行っている。が、『長いお別れ』ほどの差はない。

最大の差は、まずは献辞。二人の名前の後に「この二人がいなければ本書は決して書けなかったであろう」というのがイギリス版にだけある。またベティ・メイフィールドを追いかけてくる元義理の父親の名前が、アメリカ版のカンバーランドから、キンソルヴィングになっているところ。なぜそのような変更が行われたのかはわからない。他に細かい表現(最終章で、黒髪が黒い頭になっているなど) の修正はある。あと一ヶ所マニアックな地名の変更など。その他、in the alley がon the alley になっているなど、翻訳には反映されない細かい表現慣習の差と、check → chequeといった英米の綴りの差の修正が行われているだけにとどまる。

全体に、イギリス版のほうが時制や冠詞などで、文法的に正しい表記にしようとしており、アメリカ版のほうが口語的、雑な仕上がり。『長いお別れ』ではイギリス版が先でアメリカ版がそれに遂行を加えた印象があったが、こちらではむしろ逆の印象がある。

邦訳は、清水訳がイギリス版をもとにしており、献辞の追加もあるし、名前もキンゾルヴィングとなっている。他はアメリカ版に基づいている。
